[AZ-Observing] Re: [amastro] McNaught Daytime visual reports

Thanks for all the posts, they encouraged me to give it a try. I had been
pretty much resigned to missing out on this comet which would have been a
big disappointment.
I was able to find it with 7x42 binoculars. Really bright and a bit of tail
visible, although I know it's much longer than what I saw based on pictures.
This was perhaps the most nervous I have ever felt while observing, that
close to the sun is just plain risky, even thought the sun was blocked.
I tried to snap a quick picture of it through a 20Da but the shortest
exposure I could get was 0.3s which was still too long, the sunlight just
washes it out. Maybe I'll try again at sunset, but even if I don't get it
at least I will know that I saw it visually.
Clear Skies to all,
Keith Schlottman

Gordon;

I agree with your observation with 8X42 binoculars from my house in Phoenix,
Az. I did not see Mercury with the little binoculars. It is very scary
with the comet that close to the Sun, particularly with wide angle
binoculars. I used the pillar for my observatory to block the Sun and kept
it at the edge of the field in the binoculars. It did not stand out nearly
as much as I thought it would, low contrast between the glare of the Sun and
the comet in daylight.

Take Care, this is a dangerous observation;

Steve Coe

Albuquerque:
12:05 local time.
WOW! 11X80 binocs
Very prominant bow shock feature in the coma, tail about 3/4 D, Mercury in
same field. Scary close to sun.

My 1st daylight comet!

Hi folks,
please keep sending them in. Those of us hopelessly lost in clouds, rain,
and ice storms in the central United States are enjoying and savoring
your observations, clearing not expected soon here in eastern Texas/
