Hi, Guys.
The haze in he air was all the fireworks smoke from the west side folks trying
to burn down the city. When I came home from the hospital around noon, the air
still stank like smoke, and it lasted into the evening. Since you are on the
east side of town, Tom, you get to look thru most of the bad air.

Thank you Tom! Pierre set the bar high. I'll see if I can do better next
time:-)

What may have impacted your site was that there looked to be a fairly heavy
layer of haze or smoke around the southern point of the White Tanks and over
toward the Estrella's. Knowing your location, I could see where that might have
been a factor. There was sufficient haze to the West to make me question being
able to pick out the Moon. As I wasn't using a computer, I almost missed it
because I was sweeping a bit too far south at first but adjusted and picked it
up with 7 minutes to spare.

Thank you,

Jimmy Ray

That's impressive, Jimmy. Pierre Schwaar would have been proud. He made young
moon hunting into an obsession, and the youngest one he saw (from Sentinel) was
13 hours, 28 minutes. We saw it as an arc about 120 degrees long, with some
breaks in it -- similar to your photo.

I went to the industrial park at the end of my street with 10x30mm binos.
Despite knowing I was pointing in the right place, I failed to see it.

Tom
