For those who don't want to travel all the way to the GCSP, but, would like to do some high desert viewing, stop by Wupatki National Monument Saturday night for a National Park Star Party. Located just a few miles north of Flagstaff, the skies are dark and the location somewhat close by. This is the first of a series of star parties sponsored by the Flagstaff National Parks System. There is a campground just out side of the Sunset Crater entrance about 19 miles from Wupatki National Monument. The easiest route is to go 12 miles north of Flagstaff on Hwy 89 and turn right at the Sunset Crater/Wupatki sign. The campground and Sunset Crater entrance is 2 miles from 89. Go another scenic 19 miles thru the lava flows to the star party site at the Wupatki Visitor Center. Solar viewing will be in the afternoon with the evening festivities beginning at around 7:30PM.
