Hello All:

I am new to the group up here in Flag. Tom Polakis made me aware of
AZ-observing and I certainly know Mr. Galaxy from my California days.

I would ask all of you to observe and image if you can Venus the next few
days. I am involved in a project here at Lowell Observatory to see if we can
observe and image the illusive Ashen light or glow. Deep red or green
filtersmight help. The AL look a bit like earthshine of the new moon but
it'sreality is still in question. Even if real, thru IR radiation or Oxygen
ionization, it may or may not be visible and imaging it is a real challenge
due to both the glare of the crescent and other factors. Please send me any
comments, images, observations on what you see and you will be fully
credited. Bill Sheehan, Kevin Schindler and I are observing it whenever
possible with the classic 24-inch Clark telescope but that window is limited
as Venus gets closer and closer to the sun.

Thanks in advance,

Klaus Brasch

Take a look at Venus in the next couple of days if you can. Don't wait too
long as Venus is rapidly approaching the Sun. This ugly picture was taken on
Monday afternoon when it was about 12 degrees from the Sun. A telescopic
lookis much better. It reminds me of a solar eclipse about 2 minutes before
totality. Be sure to approach the eyepiece with caution if your telescope
isn't aligned properly!
