The Grand Canyon and Glen Canyon venues cited in the NSN announcement are public outreach opportunities. For personal observing, you might have to find some out of the way locations or you'll find a couple of hundred of your new best friends joining in. Actually, Glen Canyon might have the better chance at some memories; the duration will be a bit longer, and the view will, in most cases, be more spectacular as the sun sets. Let me know if you want to join our intrepid gang at the Grand Canyon, where five NASA folks will also be providing daytime demos in the Visitor Center Theater as well as scopes for the event. Information for Joan Mayer at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, who is coordinating that event, is on the NSN link below. If you are unfamiliar with the Page area, try Google Earth to get a feeling for the sight lines for better photo ops. For the Grand Canyon, east of the Visitor Center seems to have the most chance at getting the Rim and the eclipse in the same frame.
