Tom ------ I have received some information by the Berlin amateur astronomers concerning Anton Weber and his discovery of C/1946 K1 (Pajdusakova-Rotbart-Weber). The following is a translation of an account by E. Mädlow of this most interesting story. It can be seen that comets can be discovered from almost every place. This home was severely affected by the war and still in 1946 there were no windows or window frames present - even in the toilet! While he was sitting on the toilet one clear night he saw a diffuse object through one of the window openings which he was able to confirm as a comet a short time later. Steglitz was situated in the American sector of Berlin and he was able to relay a message to the Central Bureau (it must have been then in Cincinnati?) So he was credited with the comet as the third discoverer. Weber was one of the most active and well known amateur astronomers in Berlin from the 30s to the 50s.
