I would like to do some observing  Saturday night, but I am a little
confused as to where the club  sponsored site will be. Is this the new
observing
site or is it  still Fredericksen's Meadow? Is anyone planning to go to
either  site Saturday night? Actually, temps at the Antennas site will be
in the
mid 60's at night, is anyone interested in going there one more time
this
year?

To my knowledge, there aren't club sponsored  sites as such, but rather a
number of sites club members visit at different  times of year.
Coordination among observers is generally managed through  messages to
this or the SAC Forum mailing list. As you may have seen,  Dwight Bogan
will be at Cherry Road tonight, one of the sites commonly used  for
informal gatherings.

Paul Lind and Ken Naif decided to observe  from Bruce Brockett trailhead
parking area the past two nights. I don't  recall if Paul is returning to
the Valley today or tomorrow, however Ken  told me that he will be
staying on for a few more days. I took a short  detour to that site on my
way to Flagstaff last night. Access is very good,  no challenge to any
type of vehicle. There are very few opportunities for  artificial light
intrusion, as one sees nothing but mountains in all  directions. Ken and
Paul were clouded out Friday, unfortunately, so they  weren't able to
provide any assessment of seeing conditions. The ranger  stopped by to
visit with them yesterday and he provided some useful  information.
First, it's not necessary to notify USFS in advance before  using the
site, and second, astronomical observers may stay overnight and  indeed,
for multiple nights. The two restrictions are a total ban on open  fires
and the 14-day limit on stays at one site. My drive from Price  and
Elliot departing at 5:35 pm required just over two hours, so I  would
consider this site a reasonable option from most any part of the  Phoenix
metro area. For anyone planning a dark sky session tonight, you  might
want to consider joining Paul and Ken.
