Steve to bad there is not a high elevation site to the west, that part of the state seems to be the only 'lesser clouded' part in the state Ken Sikes ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Coe" <stevecoe@xxxxxxxxx> To: <az-observing@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, June 28, 2008 3:27 PM Subject: [AZ-Observing] Re: Tonights observing--update OK, I give. I am packing up the scope into the Subaru and watching the clouds get thicker over central Az and I finally give up. The best that would happen is they would clear out by 10 or 10:30 and I would have a = short time before moonrise to do some observing. That is not worth the effort = for me. =20 Oh well; Steve Coe -----Original Message----- From: az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Dawn Schur Sent: Saturday, June 28, 2008 3:20 PM To: az-observing@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [AZ-Observing] Re: Tonights observing Now the 75 % is covered with clouds and the wind is really blowing has = been all afternoon. Moving from the rim and to the west... There are still = high clouds in-between the big ole dark puffy clouds.... Hard to say what it = is going to do. -----Original Message----- From: az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Dawn Schur Sent: Saturday, June 28, 2008 1:27 PM To: az-observing@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [AZ-Observing] Re: Tonights observing Okay now about 1/2 the sky has monsoon looking clouds with verga coming = down below them to the north and east of Payson as well as high clouds = in-between with mares tails to the west. Was cloudy all afternoon and evening long with showers I could see on the rim and to = the east. Can't see the west real well with a hill in the way. As of right = now 10am there is a little bit of clouds on the rim. This is not something = that happens normally. Most of the time, once the afternoon clouds start = their build up in the mountains it lasts well into the night and include lightening shows and precipitation. Last night was an unusual = happening, but keep in mind it can. The unfortunate problem is to predict this = ahead of time and I don't know how to do that, nor does there seem to be = weather forecasters that know how. Just doesn't seem to be enough data to build = a model, or could there be just toooo much data? Still it is good to have someone like Stan to give us up to the minute weather reports. Thanks Stan. Observing tonight - I'll be watching to see what transpires before = making a decision. Regardless it would probably be later rather than earlier. Based on that, several of us decided to forego Cherry last night. Then Stan wrote to say it had cleared off and was pretty decent. Ah, that's life! Andrew, let's watch these satellite images during the day, especially = early afternoon, to see if anything "pops up."
