YOu can see both low clouds and high clouds at night very well
by having a look at the NWS 'fog-reflectivity' image here:
http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/satellite/showsat.php?wfo=fgz&type=fog&size=2
...where (at night) the low stuff is lighter grey, and the cirrus is
dark.
