Sue saw it first just after staging. She had though it would go straight up so she just said what's that over there? I practically screamed "THAT"S IT" We watched as the second stage exhaust plume spread wider than I'd of imagined. Through my 15x70's I could see the pinpoints that were the engines. After shutdown I was able to follow it for a while in the binos. Lindsay was able to follow it in binos (7x35's) as well (and she had her amblyopia patch on. The first stage trail eventually took on a helix shape the color were as said earlier took on a nebulous appearance. Beevo, if you want to be alerted to upcoming launches, go to: http://www.spacearchive.info/newsletter.htm You can subscribe to an email list that will advise of upcoming launches and schedules. You can also get the information directly from the Vandenberg AFB website: http://www.spacearchive.info/vafbsked.htm I wonder how many phone calls were made to 911 tonight. Wonder even more about what people were told, as I doubt the local constabulary would've had any idea themselves. Betcha there's an bit the Repulsive tomorrow about the "Strange lights in the West". Emma Barwood must hiding under her coffee table about now. :) Clear Skies Rick Tejera Editor SACnews Saguaro Astronomy Club Phoenix, Arizona saguaroastro@xxxxxxx www.saguaroastro.org -----Original Message----- From: az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Bill VanOrden Sent: Thursday, September 22, 2005 8:09 PM To: az-observing@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [AZ-Observing] Re: Thursday Photo Op I saw it from my driveway in Tempe. Very cool! I was driving out west on I10 a few years ago and they launched one about 8pm on the winter night (month unknown). It appeared to rise straight up out of the median a few miles away, I thought some truck had exploded at first. :<) Hopefully we will get future heads up when they do this again.
