Jeremy, that's an incredible video of the circulation. Even allowing for
the 10 s time-lapse, that's pretty rapid rotation! I'm a bit of a weather
geek myself, and always appreciate nice shots like that. Many of my
"astrophotos" on the DFAC website (http://www.dfacaz.org/astrophotos.html)
are, in fact, meteorological phenomena. Thanks for posting that video!

Yes, the blue jets were quite impressive. I guess the color is due to their
altitude, and the fact that we're seeing a spectrum unfiltered by the usual
atmospheric haze and dust. They look more the color of sparks you see up
close (e.g., Van de Graff or Tesla coil type). I'd have had my camera out
there, but it was too windy for my tripod. We had gusts up to 40 mph here
in New River.

I've never seen a sprite, but I know other ground-based observers have. I
doubt I'm up high enough to really see that far above the storm. If we get
another show this weekend, I'm going to set up (and solidly anchor) my
tripod, and see what I can catch. I'll be using my fisheye lense for
broader coverage. I have this nifty accessory for my Canon EOS 20D that
allows me to automate time lapse sequences, so I'll set it for a picture
every 5 seconds or so, and see what shows up. With a half-Gb memory card, I
can get a couple hundred shots at decent resolution before I run outa
memory.

Dan
