OK I Mentioned "The Plan" this morning. Got out to Sentinel about 1300. Looked goo then. Joe Goss & Rich Payne were there from Friday Night. Joe said he got about 2 Hours worth of observing in between Sucker holes. The transparency was real nice but the seeing was soft. Seems you can't have both, it always seems to be one or the other. Anyway I decided to hunt a few NGS Benchmarks near by and look for evidence of the old Radio tower that used be just south of the hill to the NE. The First Benchmark was on top of the hill about 1 mile away took 30 minutes to get there. Gotta say I've never seen as much vegetation in the desert as there is right now. The Desert floor is green and covered in yellow wild flowers. Anyway got to where the tower use to be and couldn't fins any evidence of footing or pads or anything else that might have said "There use to be a radio tower here", so I moved on up the hill to the BM. Just as I got to the summit "BOOM-BOOM", I mean two REALLY LOUD Reports follow by the sound of after burners. Put three feet of Air under my shoes, that's for sure. Noticed a couple of FA-18's Circling back for a second run, which was more of a distant rumble than the first two blasts. Looks like a few jarheads were having a make up day. After finding the BM and two others. I got back to the sight about 1545, Made dinner and decided it wasn't going to happen. Headed home but detoured 13 miles north of Dateland to find a Geocache. On the way home, I did See Sirius through the clouds, so I guess I did do some astronomy. So In spite of not really doing any observing, I did get to ply a hobby, so the day wasn't wasted and I can say "The Plan" work out well. Anyway, hope Flat iron offered some Photon relief and let hope this string of crappy wx ends soon.
