Because the Messier marathon is generally considered a visual event. Yes people have done them by imaging etc, but the scope of our event is a visual test. But more than that, because AJ says so :) Rick Tejera President Editor SACnews Saguaro Astronomy Club Phoenix, Arizona saguaroastro@xxxxxxx www.saguaroastro.org -----Original Message----- From: az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Stars Sent: Thursday, March 02, 2006 6:49 PM To: az-observing@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [AZ-Observing] Re: The Meade Mount Why? I have bad eyes and cannot see through the eyepieces very good. Why can't a real time image be allowed from a camera, to a video screen be allowed? (no computer involved). There have been astrophotographers wanting to do a photographic MM, which they can do if desired but are not eligible for awards. Even looking at an image on a computer screen from the telescope doesn't qualify. Clear skies, aj (o; Stan Gorodenski wrote: To extend this a little further. AJ, is there a requirement that observing the M object has to be through a telescope _at_ the MM site? Could someone show up in their big Class A diesel pusher RV, with all the comforts of home, and, if it is not possible now maybe in the future when it is, communicate through sattelite with their robotic telescope at their permanentobservatory, and view the objects on their lap top inside the warmthof their RV with a cup of hot chocolate on hand? Stan Stan Gorodenski wrote: I don't know how long Meade has been out with this, but I see in the April S&T they now have a robotic mount for a mere $14,999 (at least its a little more reasonable by not being $15,000). It looks like robotic is the wave. This would make doing the MM very easy. Write a script to slew to the object at a specific time, pause a minute or so to view and then go to the next. :-) Stan -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list. -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list. -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list. -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list. -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list.
