Sounds like an idyllic way to spend the summer, Steve! I enjoy hearing the 
occasional updates from your Grand Tour. Some one of these years I'd like to do 
something similar.

Hello all;

I am in the little town of Likely, California, about 80 miles north of
Susanville and 140 miles north of Reno.  The Golden State Star Party is
next weekend and the party is about 20 miles north of this cute little
town with an RV park.

I had some time while in Utah to use the telescopes of the Salt Lake
Astronomy Club, they have an 8 inch refractor, a 16 inch Cass and a 32
inch Cass that has a focal position with an eyepiece that does not move. 
We had lots of fun on several clear nights.  I can say that the Moon in
the 16 incher and the tight doubles we split with the refractor were
excellent.  The 32 was being used often for public viewing, but the couple
of views I got where quite good.

It has been fun so far and I am looking forward to giving a talk at the
Golden State Star Party and then Tom, Jeannie and I are on our way to
Oregon.
