John, There are two star parties here in the south, the All Arizona Star Party in October, and the Messier Marathon in late March. We use the Arizona City site as being convienient to people attending from Tucson or Phoenix. Not necessarily well organized, no lectures, vendors, and all the other going's-on, just a big version of our normal star parties with lots of people and scopes. Information on both are usually posted in our (TAAA) newsletter as I get it from the guys up the freeway. We organize the GCSP and the Marathon is organized by SAC (Saguaro Astronomy Club). Many of our members attend the larger regonal star parties, like Riverside and Texas SP, neither are really all that far away either direction along I-10. I'll be speaking at NASP on CCD imaging, it promises to be a good couple nights on a mountaintop. I have attended a couple NASP event's and the Prescott Club does a good job of organizing these. Maybe not a big event, but fun.
