Subject: [AZ-Observing] Soap for Dobs?

I wonder if anyone has tried soap as a lubricant for sticky dob bearings. I
hesitate to ask because every lubricant I've tried previously was a disaster,
especially Armor-All. I posted recently about how Coulombs law should make
friction independent of pressure. Mike Collins correctly answered that those
simple laws don't apply to textured or wet surfaces, so that pressure can make
a real difference. Anyway, I tried different size Teflon pads and always got
severe "sticktion". It was so severe that the surfaces gave out a tick sound as
they broke into sliding friction. Then, I cleaned the laminate with lots of
soap on a cloth, leaving soap on the surface. Movement is very smooth now.
And, if the soap gums up, it will be easy to remove, unlike oil based
lubricants.
