Less than 24 hours ago, Utah amateur astronomer Patrick Wiggins discovered a
new star in the galaxy NGC 6946. It is very likely a supernova in the
distant galaxy, which would be its tenth in the past century.
My image from this morning shows the star, which is absent from an image I
took in July 2016.
Both images are stacks of four 5-minute exposures taken with a 12 1/2-inch
telescope in Tempe.
