There was some discussion about this tidal-tail on 'amastro' recently. It is pretty faint on the POSS-II film copies, so the surface brightness is something light mag 27 per square arcsec in the blue, probably between 25 and 26 in red (where most of your signal is coming from). This is only 1 or 2 percent of the night sky brightness, so argues well for "f/ratio is all that matters". >> At F/3 my astrograph allows me to go extremely deep relatively quickly... It was still five hours of combined exposures! \Brian -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list.
