It sounds like Picket Post was pretty busy last Saturday - maybe because it
was a Saturday night?
I live in SE Chandler (south of you), so I have been looking for sites to
the SE. I have a light pollution app on my phone, and I have been going out
into the "dark" areas.
Last Saturday I was out by the Pinal County Landfill - I only hang out at
classy places, and I went to the Tom Mix Memorial off highway 79.
The Tom Mix Memorial is easy to find and get to. There are lots of cars and
trucks driving by on 79, but I was set up perpendicular to the road and had
no trouble.
I have some other spots I want to look at, let me know if you want to go.
Since I have just been scouting locations, I have only been taking my
binoculars and DSLR.

I met Brooks out at Picket Post last Saturday night. The Wx was great, and
the seeing was great also. The only drawback was the blokes driving in at
all times of the night. Brooks left about midnight, and I left about 1 am.
There was a group of idiots at the far end with hand held floodlights, and
noisy radios blaring. About 1 am some bozo drove in and parked next to me
idling his truck for about 5 minutes with his interior lights and headlights
on. I decided then it was time to leave. Over all it was a great night
though. You said you were checking new observing sites to the east, where
were they at, and did you like them?
