I noticed the superb seeing last night too Wayne. I did 68 doubles with my
6-inch refractor, managing at one point to get a definite "peanut" shape on
a pair listed at 0.80" (0.75" being the Dawes Limit of a 6-inch refractor).
(The star was STT 395.) I was delighted to see a definite peanut shape to
this tight little beastie!

Benson, AZ 85602
hm ph: 520-586-2244 It seems like the monsoons have eased up for a day or
two and I took the opportunity to observe some double stars. Although the
transparency wasn't the best, the seeing was quite good and I rolled out my
13-in Dob for about an hour or two to take in some sights. Alpha Herculis is
a beautiful orange and blue couple and Izar in Bootes is a good challenge
requiring moderately high power. Epsilon Lyrae (the Double-Double) was
beautiful and is always worth a visit. Though it's known mostly as a
variable star, delta Cephei is a nice pretty wide double set in a nice field
of stars. I spent some time wondering around in the Milky Way noting gamma
Delphini and a couple very close doubles in northern Ophiuchus. The
temperature was shirt sleeve weather with a whisper of a breeze. A very
pleasant, though short, night.
Clear skies,
