Hi Peter,

Sorry we didn't get back to you right away. As you can see we ran off
"Spec"-ulating about formations of flying "specs" right after you posted. I
have been to the "Antenna" site on the south side of I-10 and personally
love it. Though the shiny black desert pavement would be "incineratingly"
hot in the summer, we had a great time there last month (3 days). Even
though it is a true volcanic pavement and quite flat, setting up on it is
easy, tent stakes go right in, there are plenty of bushes around the
perimeter for needed comfort breaks of both ours and the fairer sex. It also
has nice day hiking possibilities. As far as the desert sites I have
visited, my favorites are Az City first, Sentinel second ( can be a little
dusty but love it) followed by Hovatter South.

I echo Rick's sentiments, "Come on back!"

Jimmy Ray

Peter,

The directions to the Hovatter Road Site arte copied below. As yet I haven't
been able get there myself so I can't say anything other than it's gotten
very good reviews for darkness & seeing from those that have. It's far
enough off the freeway to avoid notice and well away from human smuggling
routes.

It's public land, so have at it.

We'd love to have you back as a member, If you're free to join us our next
meeting is Friday November 3rd at Grand Canyon University, Fleming Bldg rm
105, at 7:30 p.m.

Hope you can make it. If you have any other questions about SAC, please
contact me off list at saguaroastro@xxxxxxxx

This site is 100 miles from central Phoenix. Drive west on I-10 to the
Hovatter Road exit; that is exit number 53. This is about 40 miles past the
Palo Verde nuclear power plant. At the end of the off ramp, turn left over
the freeway and drive over the canal and then the road takes a sharp right
and the pavement ends at a "dead end" sign. Turn left at the sign and you
will be headed directly toward some radio and cell phone antennas. After
you pass the antennas the road takes a sharp right and makes its way through
a wash or stream gulley; then the road levels off for half a mile before you
pass into a second gulley. As soon as you come out of the second gulley the
observing site is on your left. It is a large desert pavement that is
exactly 2 miles from the I-10 freeway.
