I just ran the simulation on SkySafari. The comet will be right in front of the center of the Beehive cluster near the zenith at dawn on Saturday, November 9. Hopefully the astroimagers who still remain on this list will be interested in imaging the comet and M44. It will pass very near M51 on the morning of Friday, November 29, and still halfway to the zenith at dawn. Early predictions have it peaking at around 8th magnitude, so a tail should be visible in a mid-sized scope. It will dip toward the sun during December, but it won't plunge into the twilight. Rather, it will turn back upward in the eastern pre-dawn sky while it fades early next year. The MPEC site shows orbital elements based on three days of observations that should be close. http://www.minorplanetcenter.net/mpec/K13/K13R72.html Tom -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list.
