Jim, I have polar aligned both my Titan before I sold it and now my AP1200 with a Losmandy polar alignment scope. I know for sure that it is not completely accurate and I can see some field rotation between my images from the beginning of the night compared to those from the end of the night. I believe this is because the polar scope does not point perfectly straight because I align the stars very well in it. I would consider the polar alignment I use to be pretty rough. But since I align and combine the images with software it really hasn't been much of a problem. The individual exposures (20 min) aren't enough to show that field rotation. I can not get an accurate polar alignment on the mount. I use the polar alignment scope and align Polaris and the 2 other reference stars then proceed to drift align the mount. I have a feeling that my reticle in the polar scope is not centered or I am drift aligning the mount incorrectly. Is there somebody in the Phoenix metro area with a G8 or G11 that they polar align for astrophotography? I would like to meet up with you during the next star party or chat over e-mail.
