David,
Martin told me he was fine with me taking the credit and not including him. I
decided to anyway because he did at least half the work. This situation is
really no different than a group of people sharing time on a system. Everyone
gets the data and is free to do their own processing. It is obviously best if
the group has agreed upon procedures, but the one I see most is that every name
in the group goes on the image, but the name of the one who did the processing
goes first. I guess I should discuss with Martin his expectations if I ever win
any actual money for one of these pictures ð

Thank you for clearing all that up. For awhile there, I (and others I have
been talking with) were no to happy with Martin.
Not that it would matter... But this clears things up.... sort of.
Do you have an agreement with him (writing) for when he supplies you data ??
I now there have been prior discussions about who "owns" what... (Imager vs
Processor) This certainly gives clear evidence of where agreements should be
necessary.... being that you BOTH are in the "submission" group.
By that, I mean that you both seem to "submit" images to various publications.
I notice from Martin's web site that he has MANY APOD images to his credit.
I noticed on your web page, you give credit to Martin for taking the images. I
think that is the way it should be.
That way, each of you receives recognition for that which you have done...
Important in the publication business.
There still is yet another "issue"...
If you request data for an object (such as this).... should he be free to
process it as well ??
I can see both sides of a good "discussion" on that one. After all, he does
have an obs, and he does his own work.
Hmmmmm. Does make having your own equipment (even if in a remote location)
worth while.

Actually, the APOD was done by Martin. He submitted it before I finished my

Oh my gosh... I just saw the image submitted by Martin Pugh. Well, I knew
it was APOD worthy!
You did the work, that should have been credited to you, or at least a joint
credit. Sorry about that, but donât let it discourage you. You make
terrific images, keep it up and be a little faster on the trigger, or submit
it to APOD before you send a copy to Martin.

Thanks Rob. As far as APOD goes I was about 2 days late. Take a look at the
APOD from 8/10. â˹

Bernard, you get a lot of feedback like - "great image." Now this is a
Great Image! Super sharp from corner to corner. Lots of contrast between
the black background and all of the white surrounding stars, as well as 6744
itself. It is also amazing that the arm that spins in the upper left is so
far away and yet still associated with, and pulled along by the mass of the
galaxy. This is for sure APOD worthy, you should submit for that.
I also notice that the aspect ratio of this image is 3:2 rather than the
typical CCD square image. My eye tends to like 3:2 better, probably from
DSLR photography. Is this aspect ratio the result of the capture equipment
in Australia, did you crop the image, or something else? great image!

Hi,
This is an image of NGC 6744. It is a spiral galaxy about 30 million light
years away in the constellation Pavo. It is thought to be one of the most
Milky Way-like spiral galaxies in our immediate vicinity, with flocculent
(fluffy) arms and an elongated core. It also has at least one distorted
companion galaxy (NGC 6744A).
Comments and suggestions welcomed.
