Terrence Johnson on NASA TV just said that the CCD's are in a strip array and optical cables feeds the light from the outside to the strip array of the CCD. Then they have to stitch the image together line by line. So the 250 square array is just what they stitched together and released as a raw image. Interesting. Plus, they probably wont release any sharp images for awhile until the mission scientists get their science out of them. Yes, an amazing achievement indeed! Rick R. Does anybody know if the Huygens probe camera really has only a ~250 square pixel chip? I imagine the science reason would be to gather and transmit as many images as possible during descent.
