[snip] The Coconino Astronomical Society is devoting its regular monthly Moon viewing session at Heritage Square to Mars, on Friday, September 5. The following night, I'm giving a talk on "The Great 2003 Mars Opposition" during our meeting (free to the public) in the Lowell Visitor Center. Weather permitting, we're setting up scopes outside the Lowell Rotunda, after the meeting, to show Mars to visitors. Given the weather in the norhtland this time of year and the fact that Mars doesn't rise until after 7pm, We're planning to hold additional public Mars viewings in late-September. Hopefully, the weather will be more cooperative by then and parents will be able to bring the kids out for a good view without having to stay up past 10pm.
