They coulda been rogue Leonids (or Taurids, as I said in a subsequent post).
They were exactly straight east to west, and ~30 degrees long.

Your 8:00 p.m. Leonids must be false alarms. The Leonids hit on the wrong
side of the Earth at that time. Meteors do not curve around the Earth.
That still does not mean that the two you saw weren't a lot a fun.
