After reading some of the Leonid observation reports on this list recently -- specifically with regard to "sounds" (actually heard or just imagined etc.), I was delighted to find two excellent references to Electrophonic sound. Sounds, which seem to be produced by ionization events such as meteor trails and aurora. And the interesting observation, that if the human ear is really able to "hear" VLF and EMP events, you would hear the "sizzle" from a 60 mile high meteor trail with a delay of only about 367 microseconds (real time, for all practical purposes), as opposed to the 6 minute delay of an actual "acoustic wave".
