Tom, thanks for the heads up - I saw the pair perfectly between clouds last 
night up here in Payson.  Nice photo op!

Jupiter and Mercury will make their closest approach tonight, when they are 
separated by about 2 degrees.  It looks like the best view will happen between 
7:00 and 7:20.  My planetarium software shows Jupiter on the left at magnitude 
-2.1and Mercury on the right at magnitude -0.9.  Since the pair is located due 
west, you can typically look straight down your street at a low horizon in 
Phoenix.
