I'm pretty sure that they were named after Magellan, or more properly "Fernão 
de Magalhães".  Otherwise, I don't think that Magellenic has any other 
"meaning".  Like my cloud predictions, I could be missing the point here, so 
please vet for yourself before accepting this blindly :-).
