Just a heads-up for anyway looking for an inexpensive Go-To scope for either themselves or a relative/friend getting started in astronomy. Costco is currently carrying the Celestron NexStar 114GT for $199, and there is a current coupon (this week only) for $40 off for a net price of $159. Here is Celestron's own page: http://www.celestron.com/prod_pgs/tel/nx114gt.htm And here are some current on-line dealer prices: ScopeCity (for $440): http://www.scopecity.com/nexstr114.htm Telescopes.com (for $359): http://www.telescopes.com/detail.asp?PID=5945 Amazon.com (for $347): http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004ZD38/002-8554387- 3534444 And here's another dealer that is selling adaptors to allow the attachment of other scopes to the 114 GT mount (GoTo controller, mount and tripod are all included at the $159 Costco price): http://www.alpineastro.com/mounting_accessories/nexstar_bracket/ nexstar_bracket.htm Sounds like a very good price for an intro GoTo 4" Newtonian reflector; probably a great first scope for a kid or a first-timer on a strict budget. BTW, Sky and Telescope reviewed this scope (along with 4 other beginner GoTo models) in the May 2001 issue. I don't have the issue handy to see what their final evaluation was -- maybe someone else can summarize for anyone else interested.
