I've always thought of observational astronomy as a giant game of "Where's Waldo?" Finding the object is more enjoyable than the actual view you recieve. Except for a few cases (even in a very large scope) most of the objects are faint puffs of smoke of one form or another and it takes an experienced amatuer to pick out any detail at all compared to the same object in an astrophotograph. The oooohs and aaaahs I get are from looking up at the night sky and knowing an object is right about there. Using a goto scope or setting circles in a marathon is like using a car in a foot race. Sure you'll win, but what does it prove? Jeff Vandecar -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list.
