On Tuesday morning a strong mid-tropospheric high center was located over
the Pacific Ocean around 500 miles west of Seattle, WA. A ridge axis
extended southeast from the high to over Arizona. Meanwhile, a trough
stretched from Manitoba, Canada to Texas. This is an unusual configuration
for the month of August and has displaced the summer monsoon south over
Mexico. Peak ozone values over the eastern portion of the forecast area rose
significantly on Monday and is believed to have been due to the combination
of sunny skies, hot daytime temperatures, and the import of elevated ozone
concentrations from the west and northwest. Since the overall weather
pattern will change little on Wednesday and Thursday, the potential for
maximum 1-Hr ozone concentrations to reach the high upper range of the
moderate category will continue. Thus a High Pollution Advisory for Phoenix
has been issued for Wednesday. Good time for observing though.

OK, I added that last sentence. (But you'll have to share half the night
with the Moon.) It's from Maricopa Cty Env. Svcs page
(http://envquery.maricopa.gov/AIR/airday.asp).
