Last night was strange. While a bit on the chilly side, the night looked very promising. From my backyard on the West side of Phoenix I did some spectroscopy around 9 - 10 PM and the sky was very clear, exceptionally. Then I started UBV photometry. At first the reading were all very high indicating a very transparent night. Then they started going down significantly. The sky still looked clear. My first thought was dew. I have a heater on the scope plus I tried a hair dryer. No luck. The reading continued to drop. The best I can figure out is very thin clouds moved in. If you thought your eyes were going bad last night I think it can be attributed to a degrading sky. Again, visually I could see no change, even through the telescope optics. Definitely not a photometric night. Tonight may be better. Happy Holidays.
