hm ph: 520-586-2244 Thanks, Gene. I'm glad to hear Evered is still among the
living. How old is he? I always admired his astrophotography and always had
misgivings about Mallas' drawings!

Greetings,

FWIW, Evred Kreimer's observatory, housing a 12.5 inch Cave Astrola
Newtonian reflector, was situated on a ridgeline west and overlooking
Prescott, at fairly high elevation. That is where he did most of his
pioneering cold-camera photography. (See Mallas and Kreimer, "The
Messier Album".) Evred also did some astrophotography with Dick and
Helen Lines at the first dome in Mayer. Which originally housed a 16
inch f:7 Newtonian, later a 20 inch -- both sets of optics were ground
and polished by hand by the Lines. They successfully did a great deal of
photography and variable star photometry there. (Gary Frey evidently
replaced the mirror in the Lines 20 with new optics.)

But Evred is now fully "retired" and living in North Phoenix. He sold
off the telescope, dome and trailer in Prescott a few years ago. I
visited with him at Dr. Keith Parizek's home and dome in Rio Verde about
two years ago -- he was still hale and healthy... contrary to a naive
report published in the Sacramento Valley Astro Club Newsletter about 6
years ago (!!)

NB, I have some of those "Piled Higher and Deeper" opinions, too....
used to make a pretty good living correcting papers on PhDs... hehehe
