Benson, AZ 85602 hm ph: 520-586-2244 I always wondered whether the BinoMites ever made it into production and how successful they were. I worked at Coronado when David Lunt conceived the idea and worked on the very early version of it. His son and a couple of the Lunt crew were at the site where we observed near Page. I went with Marge Williams of Oak Creek and her friend Scott. We were going to Page, but took a side trip on the way to check out the ruins at Wupatki, about 40 mi. north of Flagstaff. We found out Jeff Hall, director of Lowell Observatory was going to give a talk, and ranger staff was readying for a big event, so we changed plans and went to Cameron for lunch and doubled back to see the eclipse at Wupatki. It was "in the zone", so I figured what the hey, save some gas. About 400 people and around 30 telescopes showed up, so we were not disappointed. We were very lucky to get a good parking spot so we didn't have to lug eqpt too far. (Just say you're astronomers gambit.) I set up Marge's Coronado H-Alpha PST scope below the pueblo in the great amphitheater ring where Dr. Hall gave his talk and we must have shown all 500 people the Sun for the rest of the day. We also had Coronado BinoMite solar binoculars and they were a big hit for the eclipse. Very scenic, picturesque and pleasant venue, a most memorable eclipse.
