Tom,
Great shot, but once again, you make it look too easy!

Subject: [AZ-Observing] Dumbbell Nebula Tri-color Image
My CCD camera and filters are designed for measuring brightness and color, and
not really for pretty pictures. Despite all that, I tried my hand at tri-color
imaging for the first time last night. I mapped the R, V, and B photometric
filters as red, green, and blue, and blended in a luminance layer. Exposures
are 5 minutes with the 12.5" f/6.7 scope in my urban backyard. This is a
15'x12' crop from the full field of view of 45'x30', at the original image
scale of 0.88"/pixel.
The green channel of the image is a good representation of what shows up
visually at a dark site, since the V filter's peak is near the Oxygen III
emission wavelength that dark-adapted eyes see so well.
