Another astronomical first for me, three planets in the eyepiece at the same time. I had done two planets a couple times before, but three is something I hadn't had an opportunity to do. How often do such events occur, certainly a very irregular thing I am sure, but I wonder what the average is? They weren't that close, it took my 6" f/5.1 RFT telescope (http://www.siowl.com/Primero/primero.html) with a 35mm Panoptic eyepiece to do the job. That combination gives me just over 3 degrees field and about 22x, but still enough to see Saturn's rings clearly, small, but clear. The function? none. But still very pretty. They are still in the sky for a few minutes more if you hurry, if not the show continues for the next few days as Saturn draws away from the trio, but Venus and Mercury dance together for a couple more nights getting much closer.
