Correction on my notes:  I meant to say the "plume" fans a half to a  
2/3rds IN from the coma.  So less than halfway out from the nucleus.   
And on that point, I will Paul's note the brightening does seem to  
envelop the nucleus, and the "plume" is denser at its center.
