Howard, I just saw this. Very nice job. Bernard -----Original Message----- From: az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Howard Anderson Sent: Wednesday, November 13, 2013 2:03 PM To: EVAC ONLINE; az-obs Subject: [AZ-Observing] Comet C2012 S1 (ISON) Hi, After prodigious amounts of processing partly due to following many dead-ends, I finally arrived at a comet image I can almost live with. :-) It is at http://www.astroshow.com/Comets/2012S1ISON2.html This comet is rather difficult at the moment because it is low in the Eastern sky and dawn breaks pretty soon after it is high enough to capture it. Had L,R,G, and B images with a fair amount of noise. Got 5 each L, R, G, and B unguided 1 minute exposures at Bin 4. Combined images in accordance with instructions in the Dec 2013 issues of Sky & Telescope article by Chris Cook, "Capturing Comets." His Photoshop techniques allow one to get the comet AND the stars WITHOUT star trails! Since the comet was moving at almost 6 arc-minutes per hour, the star trails would have been significant. (They were significant until I applied the Photoshop techniques in Chris' article!) So this was my last chance on this comet because it is now too low in the sky for me to shoot it before twilight becomes a problem. My observatory wall in the East direction requires due-East objects to be above 23 Degrees altitude. (North-South directions allow me to shoot down to the horizon... But East and West directions have some limitations.)
