Tonight might be a good night to point a scope at Boattini--it should =20 still be in the same low-power view as the beautiful carbon star V =20 Hydrae. I wasn't expecting the sight of such a deep red beacon when I =20 hunted the comet down last night. I was observing from my front yard with a good deal of light pollution =20 along the lower southern half of the sky. The comet still showed up =20 subtly through my 8" Dob. I made out about 7 arc minutes of the coma =20 and it displayed a very subtle amount of condensation at the core. The =20 real treat was the deep red spark of V Hydrae just north of it. The labeled sketch can be found here: http://www.perezmedia.net/beltofvenus/archives/000797.html While I was there, I zoomed in close for a look at V Hydrae and its =20 11th magnitude companion: http://www.perezmedia.net/beltofvenus/archives/000796.html Chris (or anyone), if you get a photo of the comet paired with V =20 Hydrae, I'd love to see it!
