It came as a bit of a surprise to see a sign reading "Pavement Ends" shortly after taking the Vekol Road exit. The pavement has been stripped from the two-mile stretch that we had come to enjoy speeding down. Also added is a sign that indicates that this is a major smuggling route due to proximity to the Mexican border. It appears that the pavement has been removed for good to slow the illegal traffic down. Not too long ago Vekol Road was paved as part of Maricopa County's dust abatement project. Those several cars per hour 50 miles from Phoenix must have been contributing to the brown cloud. Now that same pavement is being stripped to discourage illegal traffic. Your tax dollars at work, as they say. -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list.
