A bright supernova (mag 11.2) has been found in the nearby galaxy NGC 2403 by K. Itagaki in Japan. The position is reported as: 7 37 17.0 +65 35 58 (J2000), which is about 160" east and 10" north of the galaxy center. The galaxy is about as poorly-placed as it can be (passes under the pole around midnight), but was found from similar latitude as Arizona, so it must not be impossible. The pre-dawn hours are slightly favored, so there's a better chance of clear sky. Since there are other fairly bright stars superposed on the galaxy, so some sort of image or chart (Vickers, Thompson & Bryan, etc) will be needed to make a certain identification. \Brian -- See message header for info on list archives or unsubscribing, and please send personal replies to the author, not the list.
