I was on a flight and around the same time I saw a meteor out of Orion.
From my perspective it looked to go almost 90 degrees straight down towards
the horizon. I would have been over Nebraska or thereabouts around this
time, and at 35k feet with the plane headed northeast. I wonder if it could
have been the same one?

MST I stepped out to check on my telescope which was making some variable
star measurements in the backyard and I saw this very bright meteor
disintegrating on the Eastern horizon. The trail was not very long (~15
degrees) and it ended at ~Az:270/Alt:+15 (just below Altair) as observed
from my location in Scottsdale. Unfortunately, it disappeared behind the
roof of my house, so it's possible the trail was longer and I just missed
it.
The color was green and yellow and I could clearly see multiple fragments
(almost looked like a firework). Definitely in the top 10 brightest ones
I've seen. Difficult for me to estimate a magnitude (it went so fast and I
had just stepped out of the house), but I'm pretty confident it was
brighter than mag -5.
If some of you have similar observations to share, maybe we can do some
triangulation and see how far it fell? And in any case, I'm curious to see
if other people saw it.
