*The observations directly support the NASA OSIRIS-REx science team as
they learn more about the target Bennu, a carbonaceous potentially
hazardous asteroid, and other similar asteroids. *Carl Hergenrother,
OSIRIS-REx asteroid astronomy lead on the science team and /Target
Asteroids!/ co-lead, made a special appeal to /Target Asteroids!/
observers for observations of (285263)1998 QE2, a carbonaceous NEO like
Bennu.
_We invite anyone else on the AZ-Observing List-serve who obtained
images to submit them, too!_ Ideally, we are looking for images and
associated measured astrometry. If you prefer to submit images only we
may ask amateur astronomers who don't have telescopes to do the data
reduction. *Don't forget to register* here so we can credit your
observations, you can receive program updates about new NEOs added (like
1998 QE2) and be included in publications:

Note that some bright asteroids (Ceres for example!) have been added to
the list since the program's launch in April 2012. I encourage those
who couldn't reach the faintest asteroids back then to give it another

Note that these images and astrometry count also toward certificates and
pin for the Astronomical League's /Target NEOs!/ observing program (list
