Hey-

The evening started out beautifully with clear skies, good transparency
and decent seeing. Views of Jupiter, M31, the Sculptor Galaxy, Hubble's
variable (NGC2261), and a bunch of other nebulae and Messier's were
truly stunning in the 22". Slewing and tracking were dead-on until the
Mitsubishi "heavy-duty" batteries shipped in the Argo-Navis gave out -
had to beg and borrow some real one's.

There was a light breeze which very gradually became less "light" as the
night wore on. It was interesting to watch the pinpoint stars grow into
blobs and finally disks as the wind increased.

Because of the wind, people out there knocked off around midnight. I
declutched the scope and pointed it at the horizon - always wanted to
have the world's most expensive weathervane. The wind continued to
increase until morning when it was close to 20 MPH.

We put a layer of mylar under our tent fly which worked great keeping us
warm. Unfortunately, the surround-sound of 30 square feet of mylar in a
15 mph wind is something like sleeping in a giant frying pan. Live and
learn.

Eric

So, don't keep those of us that live vicariously through your freedom in
suspense. How was it?
