[AZ-Observing] Re: Antares occultation

The Moon cleared the clouds in time to observe the egress. It was right on
time and I was able to pick out Antares with 10X50 Bino's but didn't see any
hint of a "diamond ring" effect like I have seen in the past with brighter
objects, like Venus. In this case it "just appeared".

From my North Glendale home, Sky Tools III has Moon rise at 19:05, Antares
egress starting at 19:51:41 midway 19:52:32, ending at 19:53:35. At the
Midway point it will be +07 deg 10" above the horizon. Low but doable...

Paul,

SkyMap Pro v11 agrees with your calculations as well, pretty much to the
minute.

I like to get confirmation that my numbers are correct about today's
occultation of Antares by the Moon. It appears to be an almost a non-event
event in Phoenix. My program indicates it will begin 15 minutes BEFORE
moonrise at about 6:49pm. If this happened above the horizon it would be a
cool event even in bright twilight or daylight. Egress of Antares will be
visible here at about 7:51 pm, almost 7 degrees above the horizon.
