I was in Payson and I looked up just in time to see the end of it. It was towards the southwest. -----Original Message----- From: Jimmy Ray Sent: Monday, December 26, 2011 8:07 PM To: az-observing@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [AZ-Observing] Re: AZ-Observing] Very Bright Bolide Tonight at 19:34 Hrs. The preceded "sound" was not related. Once I was back out in the quite of the observatory I was able to reproduce the sound inside my ears by simply tensing up. So a startled reaction for sure (I must be getting old and jumpy :-) Thank you, Jimmy Ray -----Original Message----- From: az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jimmy Ray Sent: Monday, December 26, 2011 7:49 PM To: az-observing@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [AZ-Observing] AZ-Observing] Very Bright Bolide Tonight at 19:34 Hrs. To All, Just a few moments ago (19:34 hrs), a very bright, exploding bolide lit up the inside of the observatory with a very white light as it traveled straight overhead West to East. Not only was I startled by the brightness of the light but also by a simultaneous "rustling or rumbling" sound that occurred. I know that the sound could not have traveled to the ground that fast if at all but strange all the same and may have been a coincidence or a reflex of some sort caused by being startled. I happened to look up to see the last couple of seconds as it exploded into many fragments which dimmed quickly. Anyone else see it?
