I've not had any issues with the Az-Observing group but The Huachuca
Astronomy Club converted their member forum to Groups.io and I can recommend
it.
We had a Yahoo group (I was listowner) and we suffered from many problems
especially with the calendar function. Converting took about ten days as I
recall and was totally painless. It all happened in the background while we
continued to use the Yahoo group and once it was ready, we just asked
everyone to change their address books and ignored the old Yahoo group
(which still exists but is unused). The new group looks and feels just like
the old group (except that everything works, there is no need to have a
special (Yahoo) ID, and there is some degree of tech support which was
totally absent from Yahoo.) None of our members seemed to have any problem
with the switchover and within a couple of days we were completely weaned
off of Yahoo. All of the members, settings, archived messages, files, and
photos etc. transferred without issue. New members never have any of the
joining issues we sometimes experienced with Yahoo. With the Yahoo-Groupsio
switchover, nothing is lost from the original group, it just copies over and
is duplicated. No risk, no worries.
Groups.io was designed to be a direct replacement for Yahoo, however, so I'm
not sure how the conversion from Freelists will fare.

we look into creating an "AZ-Observing" list on Groups.IO and moving our
archives? Other Astronomy groups use Groups.IO.
