Chris, the link doesn?t seem to allow access.

Here's an e-mail that I thought I had successfully sent out to the list
yesterday but I must have used the wrong sender address on my end.
I think it still pertains.

"Other commitments are preventing me from personally being able to get to
Flagstaff today to attend the memorial for Robert Burnham.
Originally I had anticipated being there the whole weekend so it is a real
disappointment to be still here in Phoenix.
Somehow or other I wanted to connect today with the significance of this
event in any case.

I found a way to do so that worked for me and wanted to suggest it to others
who may be so inclined.
I pulled down my copy of Volume One of Burnham and began to read. I hadn't
read this part of the Handbook
in I'm sure almost two decades. Reading the dedication, the poem he selected
and the first 6 pages of text
(through page 20) completely re-connected me to why I had always thought
these volumes to be so wonderful
and what he had contributed to my love of astronomy. When I first got my set
I read them cover-to-cover like a
novel rather than as a reference work. I discovered again why I felt such an
emotional connection to today's event.

Jennifer and Tom, thanks for doing all that you did to make this possible.
It has enriched the life experience of even
those who can't attend."

I'm really glad that such a fitting tribute took place.

Mr. Galaxy, et al.,
My wife, Karen, took a bunch of pictures yesterday during the Memorial.
Everything was absolutely wonderful. Here's a link:

I'm glad it turned out well. Did anybody take pictures or video the event?
Was there a program for it other than what was on the website? Thanks, Jenn,
for accomplishing a seemingly impossible task!

Yesterday was a good day for astronomy. I was among about 50 folks who
ventured up to Lowell Observatory to celebrate the life of Robert Burnham
Jr. The memorial, A long time Coming, Was brought to fruition by Jennifer
Polakis and the ceremony was very well done. Burnham's sister & niece were
in attendance along with Burnham biographer Tony Ortega and several of his
coworkers and friends. All gave very touching talks and one could not walk
away without feeling that you knew the man a little bit better. After the
talks, the group adjourned o the Pluto-walk on the grounds of the
observatory, where Burnham's Niece, Donna Courtney & Lowell Director Eileen
Friel unveiled the memorial plaque. After wards it was mentioned that the
original idea was to have a life size stature of Burnham, but due to many
different factors that was not possible. Donna said in reply that her uncle
would have been embarrassed by such a display and the memorial as it is a
perfect tribute to him.
After the ceremony at Lowell, about 20 of us went for dinner at the Little
America lodge nearby.

After a nice dinner & conversation Paul Lind, Lyn Blackburn (and Doralynn)
made our way to Cherry II for some observing. We arrived just before
twilight ended and joined several other folks already there, including Steve
McAllister & Joan McGue. Sorry but I can't recall who else was there.

I enjoyed my first night out observing since the Messier Marathon (Way too
long). I work thorough AJ's selection's from Ophiuchus (or OphiPukus as Jen
would call it). I was planning on getting to his selection in Cygnus, but
it was way up in the dob-hole so I gave it a miss. I'll work on Cygnus next
week when the later moonrise should allow it to move into a better observing
position for a Dobsonian. I left around moonrise after what could only be
described as a great day of astronomy.

Hope to see you at Cherry next week.
